Why did I become a developer?

You might say that it is too soon for me to answer this question. And you’re probably right! But despite the fact that I am too new to the industry and haven’t even landed my first job yet…

I feel like it’s safe to say that I’ve chosen the right path.

Take today as an example. I’ve been working on my portfolio for a week now (seen I’ve finished my Bootcamp at Le Wagon Rio). Not everything is perfect, but I’m nearly done with it.

However, I came across a bug! I wanted to have a blog area/page on my portfolio, but I didn’t want to build it from scratch (even though I’m able to do it). I wanted a simpler and faster way.

That’s when I got to know more about Medium. By asking other students and reading online… I found out I could write my things on Medium and then use it as an API on my site.

Perfect, right? Indeed it is…

But as a fresh, out of the oven junior developer such as myself, I’d struggle with perhaps easy erros. And so I did… But this is not about that error yet (I haven’t even been able to fix it). This is about why I decided to become a developer.

I can answer to that question with one single word: COMMUNITY!

I’m 33 years old. I’ve worked with different things and in different places. Nowhere did I find a community like the dev community. — Says… Me!

I’ve just finished a huddle call on Slack, trying to solve my bug. The cool thing about it is… Isabel is not from Brazil, and we’ve talked for the first time 10min before the call. I posted my issue on a forum, and she was curious and decided to help.

She was, indeed, very helpful. But, we couldn’t find a solution. But like I said, that’s not the point. The point is, even before I land my first job, I already feel part of the community

I feel part of something… and that is AMAZING!

Looking forward for what is yet to come…

Oh, and by the way… here’s my portfolio. It isn’t finished yet, and not all features are working. Or it could be by the time you read this

And the issue I’m having?

Well… I’m fetching an API from Medium… and, although it works fine on my desktop and on Android, it doesn’t work on iOs. :(

Therefore, if you’re still reading this, and could possible help, please hit me up! If you can’t, but still want try, do so too… or if you just want to make our community bigger, then definitely get in touch. I’d love that!
